Another weekend in the MFL saw plenty of goals scored across all the divisions with 21 scored in the four games in the top flight.
It was a goal fest at St Johns Street where Springhead welcomed Hindsford, who were the only team to boast a 100% record so far. Six goals were scored in a manic first half which saw The Tonics lead 4-2 at the break. Both teams added a further goal in the second half, seeing Hindsford take all three points in a 5-3 win to go level at the top with the leaders. Shaun Sithole and Alex Honeyball both scored twice with Ben Meredith getting the other for the visitors while Jordan Hall, Ryan Fagan and Matthew Dixon got the goals for ‘Head.
Dukinfield Town moved to within three points of the top two after they edged out an in-form Chadderton Reserves in what was a feisty affair at Woodhams Park. In a game that saw both teams reduced to nine men, the hosts narrowly secured a 2-1 victory. Damien St Louis and Benjamin Fox put Town into a two-goal lead before a Kyle McGovern penalty halved the deficit with 15 minutes to go to set up a nervous ending to the fixture.
Beechfield United secured their first win on the road on Saturday when they travelled to Crompton House to take on Heyside. Kurtis Lee scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win for United with Keenan Switzer and Callum Davies getting the other goals. Erick Nyabanga scored the reply for Heyside who remain three points off the bottom.
Heywood St James won their first game for a month when they travelled to Sycamore Road to face Walshaw Sports. Aaron Nuttall, Martin Cosgrave and Elliot Collinson all scored for Jimmies in the 3-1 win with Lee Gaskell netting the goal for the hosts. The officials for the game included two members of the Jersey FA, referee Harry Walker and assistant Michael Pih.
Due to a number of teams competing in County cup competitions, there were just two league fixtures played on Saturday with eleven goals being scored in them.
Tintwistle Athletic picked up their first win of the campaign after they saw off fellow strugglers Wilmslow Albion. Tinny move up two places to eighth following the 4-2 win, courtesy of goals from Joe Elliott, Joshua Lowe, Callum Scott and Harry Newton.
Uppermill also picked up maximum points after scoring four when they hosted Boothstown on Saturday. Alex Jones scored twice for the home side in the 4-1 win with Ashley Ainsworth and Steven Slack getting the others. Alex Moran netted for Boothstown who miss out on a chance to go to the top of the division.
Leigh Genesis sit in second place after picking up two wins in a week. On Tuesday night they won 2-1 at Daisy Hill Development and followed that up with a 4-1 win over Astley and Tyldesley on Saturday. Dan Monaghan and Tom Simms scored in Tuesday night’s win with Jack Clare, Rees Allen and Rob Boardman (2) all scoring on Saturday.
Bolton United remain top of the pile and hold a six-point cushion after they inflicted another crushing defeat on Cavaliers. The league leaders cruised to a 14-1 win over the bottom side with Nadir Patel (6), Ethzaz Hussien (3), Umah Chadet (2), Riaz Fatakiya (2) and Nizam Bagas getting the goals. Edwin Geronimo scored the mere consolation for the league strugglers who remain without a point.
Manchester Central clinched their fourth straight win and move into the fifth promotion spot. Central won 6-2 against Oldham Community with Daniel Cooke, Rory Robertson, Jordan Greer, Mouhcine Tefahi, Daniel Dolling and Gabriel Wiwoloku getting the goals for the visitors.
Hindley Juniors are up to eleventh place after securing their first win away from home this season. Hindley ran out 5-2 winners when they faced Breightmet United at Moss Park and leave the hosts with just a point to their name.
