Results Review - Saturday 2 October

By Simon Harrison

We take a look at the results from Saturday 2 October.

It was the start of a new month but the action continued as we head into October. The increase in wet weather meant that we saw us lose the first fixtures to waterlogged pitches but there were still plenty of games for us to cover off in this week’s review.

Rochdale Sacred Heart have established a three-point cushion at the top of the table following their 4-1 win at home to Royton Town. James Hebb’s brace helped the hosts along with strikes from Matthew Rowson and Thomas Bradburn with Joe Heap scoring Town’s reply at Fox Park.

A Kieran Hennessey hat-trick inspired his Bolton County side to a 4-1 win at home to Pennington, a win that sees them move up to second place. Bradley Aspinall netted the consolation for the visitors who sit in eleventh.

Shooting up the table are Chadderton Reserves after they secured yet another win. It’s now three in a row and four out of the last five for the hosts with Old Altrinchamians being the latest victims. Kyle Bennett, Owen Massey and Robbie Nelson all scored in the 3-0 win, their first clean sheet at home this season.

Dukinfield Town secured their first win since August when they left Salford Sports Village with three points after beating Beechfield United. Benjamin Fox’s brace was added to by Jack Saw in their 3-1 win which moves them up to sixth. Sam Bolton scored the hosts’ reply and drop to eighth.

The biggest win of the day goes to Stockport Georgians who put a ten-man Heyside to the sword, coming out 8-0 winners at Crompton House. Kyle Wych (2), Callum Campbell, Paul Connor, Dean McGregor, William Parry, Taylor Apsley and Mason Warhurst were all scorers in Georgians’ first ‘away win’ of the season.

Bolton Lads and Girls’ fixture at Moorside fell victim to the weather and gave Elton Vale the chance to replace them should they get anything from their home tie against East Manchester. However, the hosts remain in second place as East picked up all three points thanks to a Tom Beswick brace, moving them up to fourth and are just four points off the promotion places.

Third place Boothstown also missed out on their chance to go top after they suffered their second defeat of the season at the hands of Govan Athletic. Jack Cobbett and Nathan Haslam both scored for the visitors as Athletic ran out 3-2 winners.

It was honours even between Atherton Town and Tintwistle Athletic as the two sides played out a 2-2 draw. Both teams are still on the hunt for their first victory but will have to settle for a point each. George Bowers and Josh Harris scored for Town while Aiden Woolleson got both for Tinny.

Bolton United made it two wins in a week and hold a five-point lead at the top of the table. United secured a 2-1 win in midweek when they travelled to Daisy Hill Development and followed that up with a 4-1 win at home to Astley and Tyldesley. Nadir Patel led the line and smashed a hat-trick to take his tally to 21 for the season with Amin Munshi getting the other goal for United. Scott Rowe scored the goal for Astley who drop to seventh.

Bolton Borough made it five league wins on the bounce after seeing off Hollinwood at Oasis Academy Oldham. Michael McGinlay, Craig Farnworth, Mohammed Nageeb and Frank Zoltak all scored in the 4-2 win for Borough with Liam Maguire and Tom Johnson both getting a goal for the hosts.

Manchester Central were the latest team to heap misery on what’s been a bad start to the season for Oldham Community. Central romped to a 12-1 victory at Wright Robinson and are up to ninth after the win. Fuhud Kasali (3), Gabriel Wiwoloku (2), Ruben Lawal (2), Michael Yusuf (2), Dennis Jerome, Daniel Dolling and Sanjae Hemmings all finding the net for Central.

Leigh Genesis also took advantage of a slow-starting Cavaliers after winning 9-2 on the road. Genesis are up to fifth following the win thanks to a Jamie McCready hat-trick, Jack Clare brace and further goals from Dan Monaghan, Robert Entwistle, Tom Simms and Taylor Parkinson. Tom Rowlands and Ruben Toyne both scored for Cavaliers who remain without a point at the foot of the table.

Avenue got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they saw off Breightmet United at Heywood Sports Village and included one of the best hat-tricks you’re likely to see. The hosts romped to a 12-1 win but the highlight of the game was the three goals which Callum Ormrod scored. All his goals were top drawer and long-range efforts which the goalkeeper stood no chance of stopping. Carlton Norford also scored a hat-trick as did Tyler Smith. Malaki Gordon, Maison Dinsdale and Joshua Brown scored the others.

AFC Monton suffered their first home defeat of the season and it came at the hands of AFC Burnley. Max McNulty and Sohaib Ahmed both scored twice for the visitors in the 4-2 win which puts them to within four points of the promotion places.
