Wednesday night sees Rochdale Sacred Heart finally take on AFC Monton in the slightly later than planned Norman Noden Cup.
This fixture is traditionally played before the league season commences but for many reasons it wasn’t to be the case this year. Never the less, we look forward to a tie which has the makings of an entertaining dual.
The Norman Noden Cup is contested between the Premier Division champions and the Gilgryst Cup winners from the previous season, however, Rochdale Sacred Heart finished top of the league as well as lifting the Gilgryst Cup, so in that scenario, it is the Gilgryst Cup finalists who make up the Norman Noden Cup line-up, in this case being AFC Monton.
Sacred Heart were winners in all three fixtures between the two sides in the 2016/17 campaign, including the Gilgryst finale but The Ammies claimed some revenge in their one clash this season as they picked up a 2-1 win at Fox Park in September.
Neither team has started the season in the fashion they would have liked with both sides picking up just eight points from their respective starts but will look to Wednesday night as an opportunity to ignite and kick-start their campaign.
Wednesday night’s game will take place at the Vestacare Stadium, the new home of fellow Manchester League Club, Avro. After moving from The Lancaster Club at the end of the 2016/17 season, they are now situated at the old Whitebank Stadium which boasts a state-of-the-art artificial 4G surface.
The game is scheduled for a 7.45pm kick off and is free entry and we have it on good authority that hot and cold drinks are available.
We hope to see you there!
