Review – Saturday 14 August 2021
Saturday didn’t see quite as many goals go in as we saw on the opening day but there was still plenty to talk about in the Premier Division and Division Two.
Rochdale Sacred Heart made it two wins from two after they left Cromley Park with all three points. Michael Kearney got himself on the score sheet again to help his team to a 2-0 win against Stockport Georgians with Lewis Wild getting the visitors’ other goal of the afternoon.
After missing out on the action last weekend, Pennington got their campaign underway with an impressive home win against Royton Town. Ethan Wellington, Nathan Randall and Bradley Aspinall all scored in the 3-0 win and leave Town without a point from their first two games.
Lamar Harrison was the star of the show at the Phoenix Ground as his four goals earned Heywood St James their first win of the season. After suffering a heavy defeat on the opening weekend, Jimmies bounced back to beat Walshaw Sports 4-2 on Saturday. Lee Gaskell scored twice for the Bury outfit adding to his goal on the opening day.
Also collecting their first win of the season were Bolton County on their travels against Heyside. Chris Hough scored twice for County in their 2-1 win with Alex Bescoby scoring the hosts’ goal, heading home from Matt German’s free kick.
It was a stalemate at St Johns Street where Springhead hosted Old Alts, a game which the visitors would pick up their first point of the season. After a goalless first half, Alts’ Sean Dorsey cancelled out Ryan Hanson’s opener as it finished 1-1.
Dukinfield Town and Manchester Gregorians met each other at Woodhams Park with both teams having won their respective games on the opening day. James Purfield netted for Gregs in the 1-1 draw with Damien St Louis scoring for Duki.
