Results Review - Saturday 18 December

By Simon Harrison

We cover off all the results from across the Manchester Football League on the final weekend of football of 2021.

The weather took a turn for the better in comparison to recent weeks but the rise in Covid cases meant a number of games were forced to be postponed.

PREMIER DIVISION

Hindsford are top of the tree this Christmas but weren’t in action at the weekend, giving second place Bolton County the chance to close the gap to just three points as they welcomed Heyside to Radcliffe Road. After a goalless first half, the hosts eventually made the break through on the hour mark thanks to Ben Finch and Tom Axon-Smith rounded off the scoring with two goals late on to seal the three points and a 3-0 win.

Rochdale Sacred Heart are a further two points behind in third place following their impressive 3-1 win at home to Springhead. Matt Landregan was back on the score sheet with two goals in addition to Kai Morris’ strike after coming on as a substitute. Jordan Jones-Waite scored Springhead’s goal which ensured his side were level going into the break at Fox Park.

Stockport Georgians ended 2021 with seven-straight league wins with the latest coming against Royton Town at Cromley Road. William Parry and Oliver McFadyen both scored for Georgians in their 2-1 home win with Jacob Rimmer scored Town’s reply. The win sees Georgians solidify their place in fourth and are six points off the leaders.

Pennington picked up their fourth win of the season, all of which have come on home soil, when they welcomed Old Alts to Jubilee Park. Jordan Park scored twice for Penny in the 3-2 win with Daniel Gunning scoring the other. Matt Jamieson and Alex Rimmer both scored for Alts who had led 2-1 earlier in the tie.

DIVISION ONE

Boothstown did all they can to ensure they were at least six points clear at the top of the division at the turn of the year as they came away from bottom side Wilmslow Albion with three points. Leading 3-0 at half time, the visitors were well on the way to victory, eventually going on to win 4-1 at Oakwood Farm. Tom Perkins (2), Ryan Cain and Ben Oldroyd all found the net for Boothstown with Sammuel Edwards getting Albion’s reply.

Second place Uppermill maintain the six-point gap between them and the leaders with an away victory of their own. Ash Ainsworth led the way as his hat-trick helped his side to a 3-2 win at Platt Lane against Govan Athletic who were in second going into the game.

It ended all square in the game between Moorside Rangers and East Manchester with the two sides playing out a 2-2 draw at Agecroft Farm. Taylor Dyson and Michael Gill both scored for Rangers with Southai Kiassi and Adebisi Adegoke getting the goals for East.

DIVISION TWO

Bolton United hold a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the table going into the new year after they picked up another impressive victory on the road. Sakeel Abdulah scored a hat-trick in United’s 6-1 win over AFC Burnley with Nadir Patel (2) and Riaz Fatakiya getting the others. Shane Hudson netted Burnley’s consolation who remain in eleventh place.

Hindley Juniors pulled off the win of the day as they defeated Leigh Genesis who are in second place. Robert Sanders scored Genesis’ goal in their 2-1 defeat but remain nine points clear of sixth place.

Astley and Tyldesley move up to ninth place following their very handy 3-1 win at home to Avro Reserves. The win sees the hosts above Avro and are now just four points off the promotion places whilst Avro drop to tenth.

There were goals galore at New Sirs where Daisy Hill Development and Hollinwood produced a nine-goal thriller with the visitors edging it by the odd goal. Jean Khasa, Lewis Shore, Alfa Umaro and Mathew Ridings all scored for Daisy who stay in twelfth but Hollinwood move up to seventh and are two points off the promotion spots with half of their season to go.
