Heyside continued their fantastic start the season with an impressive 1-0 win at Dukinfield Town. A solitary Mark Hopwood goal was enough to give the Premier Division debutants the victory at Woodhams Park and lift them up to top the pile. The defeat leaves Town mid-table with seven points from their six games.
Wythenshawe Amateurs’ 100% start to the season ended in emphatic fashion on Saturday as they fell to a 4-0 at East Manchester but bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 win at Manchester Gregorians. First half goals from Danny Egan and Joel Aikenhead were on target for the Ammies to leave the hosts without win from their start to the season.
Stockport Georgians welcomed Old Alts to Cromley Road with both sides yet to register a win but it was the hosts who would end their wait on Tuesday night. In a five-goal thriller, Georgians would get their first win of the season thanks to goals from Kevin Cooney, Joel Atkinson and Joe Bevan. Kerrim Calliste and Joe Halfpenny found the net for Alts but will now have to look to the weekend for their first taste of victory this season.
After their first win of the campaign on Saturday, Springhead welcomed an unbeaten East Manchester to St Johns Street who had kept clean sheets on their last two outings. The visitors took the lead through a Kyle McGovern header but was cancelled out on the half hour courtesy of a Josh Haigh volley. But it was Connor Brotherton who proved to be the difference as his goal mid-way through the second half sealed the win for East to lift them up to fourth place.
Hindsford turned the screw on Prestwich Heys Reserves as they put the Division One champions to the sword. The Tonics proved to be clinical in front of goal as Ryan Briody hit a hat-trick in addition to Jack Bradbury and Jack Cain strikes to lift their side up to fifth. Lee Grimshaw got on the score sheet for Heys on what was a night to forget for the visitors.
Tonight’s other game saw AFC Monton host Premier Division debutants Bolton County with both sides looking for their first win of the season. Having picked up a point on the opening day, Monton failed to add to their tally since while their opponents registered their first point of the season with a draw at the weekend.
However, both teams will have to wait even longer for a win as the teams played out a 2-2 draw at New Alder Park. Liam Short and Kieran Hennessey were on target for County but the result leave the Ammies rooted to the bottom of the table with County two places above them on the same points total.
