Tuesday Night Round-Up

By Simon Harrison

Tuesday evening saw 12 teams in action in the first of three Premier Division midweek fixture schedules.

The season got underway on Saturday and just 3 days later the players were in action again on Tuesday evening.

Prestwich Heys Reserves followed up their win at the home of the champions on Saturday with a win in front of their home fans as they defeated fellow promoted side Bolton County by a single goal to nil. Liam Lawlor was the scorer to seal the points at Adie Moran Park for Heys to make it two wins from two.

However, it is Wythenshawe Amateurs who top the table after they came away from Cromley Road with all three points thanks to a goal each from James Green and Adam Walker. The result leaves Stockport Georgians rooted to the bottom without a point from their opening two games.

Current holders Rochdale Sacred Heart were made to settle for a point after they came from behind to salvage a point in their 2-2 draw with Royton Town. Saul Ashworth and Andrew Stafford had twice given Town the lead at Fox Park but were pegged back by Jonny Thompson and a last minute equaliser from Andrew Foster.

Hindsford narrowly lost out by the odd goal in a five-goal thriller on the opening day but they were on the winning side of a seven-goal game on Tuesday night after they beat AFC Monton 4-3 at Squires Lane. Liam Jones, a brace from Jack Toone and a winner from Mark Chilton for the hosts while Liam Dunbar, Jamie Wolden and Luke Steedman all registered for the Ammies.

Springhead had Ryan Fagan to thank as his goal earned his side a point in their 1-1 draw with Dukinfield Town at St Johns Street. Mitch Andrews had earlier given his side the lead but were denied a 100% win rate from their two games.

Meanwhile, it was honours even at Crompton House as Heyside and East Manchester shared four goals. Adam Dale gave the hosts the lead before Sam Jones and Matt Roberts got on the score sheet for East Manchester only for Josh Briddon to snatch a point for Heyside with a late equaliser.

There are two fixtures on Wednesday evening as Avro entertain Walshaw Sports at the Vestacare Stadium while Manchester Gregorians travel to Crossford Bridge to face Old Alts.
